California is Burning

California is on fire, so many fires and so much smoke that our usually beautiful skies are just plain ugly lately. I hope that soon  all of these fires are under control so we can once again begin to breath good clean air. A salute to all of the Fire  Fighters out there battling these fires!

MTI Micro and NeoSolar are in the process of building fuel cells to power mobile devices such as PC's, GPS, Phones etc... The new technology which does not use Hydrogen as the source of fuel, uses Methanol instead. Very small amounts of the fuel can produce large amounts of  electricity. This is just the beginning of new technologies which will soon be in our homes. In the future you house will not have wires running to it, instead it will have devices which are completely self supportive. No more energy bills, wow that sounds so nice doesn't it? If you would  like to read more about this new technology visit this site.

Oil Prices!

Opec currently seems to be running the pricing of  oil and when ever these crooks get the urge,  they simply just raise the price!  Today oil hit a record of $140/barrel! Opec said it will reach $170 soon! The Reasons to raise the prices  are plentiful  but not truthful. Folks lets just get this out in the open, they want to collapse this countries economy and take over the country some day.  Well if you and I and everyone else doesn't do something about it, they will! Opec is only responsible for 25 % of the oil imported by this country so why are they controlling our markets? Ask your self this question and ask your congressman and ask God about it too. It is wrong and we need to boycott all oil coming from OPEC! ALL THE OIL COMING FROM OPEC! this will hurt them and maybe they will  realize that America is the reason they are where they are in the world today. I have decided to make a difference and only purchase oil from the other 75% of companies that provide oil to us in this country. As always let us know your comments on our topics.

DO NOT BUY OF FROM LOCATIONS:

Shell - Chevron - Texaco - Exxon - Mobil - Marathon - Speedway - Amaco

all of these companies import oil from the middle east or OPEC

Citgo

imports its oil from Venezuela who's dictator Hates the US!

BUY OIL FROM LOCATIONS:

Sunico - Conoco - Sinclair - BP - Phillips - Hess - Arco - Maverick - Flying J - Valero - Walmart

Sometime you just have to say it like it is!

Another milestone for the people at NASA, once again they send man made machines to explore and seek out the possibility of life in our Solar System. The latest robot sent to Mars is called the Phoenix Mars Lander  and it is quite a piece of equipment. The Phoenix will work and work on the Martian soil looking for signs of life in the Ice believed to be a foot or so under the soil. Some incredible pictures have come back thus far and I'm sure we are in for a very interesting time with this latest venture. To see more of this story go to the NASA website and see all the latest news on this topic.

How about them GAS Prices? $4.22 a gallon for regular unleaded!  Diesel is well over $5.15 a gallon. I really feel for all of those independent truck  drivers out there who are moving our products across America. With at least 60 years of untapped resources here in the US, why are we paying these outrages prices? $150 million a  day on profits for some oil companies is what we are paying for. If you are interested in current gas prices across the the state visit the AAA website and see for your selves. Thanks for reading and as always, your comments are welcome.

Dell Computer Inc. Customer support problems

This is a great article on the ongoing problem with PC manufacturers and the customer support they provide. Its easy to sell a computer but, not all system builders stand by their product. This is a major problem in the industry. Its easy to go to Walmart or where ever and purchase a PC, but  its another thing  when it fails and you need service. Choose a local computer dealer that stands behind their product and of course  speaks good English. JumpStartComputer is a system builder and provides custom computer systems to meet every need, from  high end  servers to a home desktop pc. If you are looking for a new PC  and  want a computer built right here in the USA, give us a call or email us with your questions or comments.

When Robert Pedersen's Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop went on the fritz, he naturally assumed the 5-year Next Day service warranty he purchased would get him instant help from the company's customer service staff.

That was April 18. By May 4, he still had yet to have his guaranteed next-day in-home repair appointment scheduled. And it wasn't for lack of trying. He sums up his frustration on his blog: "Close to a month, 37 different communications, a Certified letter to the CEO of Dell Computers, Inc, and 29 actual hours working directly with Dell Computers, Inc in my attempt to simply get my Dell laptop repaired or replaced."

Pedersen certainly isn't alone. Most people who own a computer can probably cite at least one example of bad customer support or an unresolved technical issue with their PC maker. And to be fair, customer service is one of those thankless jobs. Rarely do we hear or read about good service experiences. Bad customer support is what gets written--or blogged--about.

But Dell seems to get the brunt of the complaints , at least publicly. Formerly a leader in the field, Dell has dropped to the back of the pack of customer satisfaction among PC owners.

4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY  NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD  DO

There are a  few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your  mobile  phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival.  Check out the things that you can do with  it:

FIRST                                     Emergency

The Emergency  Number worldwide for Mobile  is 112. If you find yourself out of the  coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial  112  and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency  number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if  the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND                        Have  you locked your keys in the car?

Does  your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good  reason to own a cell phone: If  you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone  at home on their mobile phone from your cell  phone.

Hold  your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have  the  person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile  phone  on their end. Your car will  unlock.  Saves someone from having to
drive  your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles  away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your  car,  you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works  fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a  mobile phone!'

THIRD                              Hidden   Battery  Power

Imagine  your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#  Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will  show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you  charge your mobile next time.

FOURTH                      How  to disable a STOLEN  mobile  phone?

To  check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on  your phon! e: * # 0 6 #
A  15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your  handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get  stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They  will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the  SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You  probably won't  get your phone back,  but at least  you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does  this, there would be no point in  people  stealing  mobile  phones.

Intel plans to release an new proccessor later this year. The new proccesor named "Dunnington" will have 6 core proccessors inbeded on one chip.

Dunnington would be Intel's first monolithic design since its original Core 2 Duo chips released in 2006. The presentation indicates that Dunnington has six 45-nanometer Penryn-class cores integrated onto a single die. Each pair of Penryn cores shares 3MBs of Level 2 cache, and each of the six cores can access 16MBs of Level 3 cache. That's a ton of space to store frequently used instructions, which could be a help for the chip in avoiding the front-side bus bottleneck to the main memory that's still apparently in the works for Dunnington.

Sprint Nextel, the No. 3 U.S. mobile service, said on Friday it will cut about 4,000 jobs and close about 8 percent of its stores, predicting further pressure on its ability to attract subscribers and turn a profit in 2008.

Sprint shares fell 7 percent in premarket trading from their close of $11.57 on Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.

The company said it would cut 125 stores and eliminate more than 4,000 sales outlets within retailers. Sprint has about 20,000 total distribution points, including some 1,400 of its own retail stores.

A major problem for the Apple QuickTime and iTunes has been published. This is a major problem that  will affect many people. Please read the following and be  informed.

Security researchers are warning that exploit code has been published that can take advantage of an extremely critical security flaw in a protocol supported by Apple QuickTime.

Apple QuickTime versions 7.2 and 7.3 on Windows Vista and Windows XP Pro SP2 are both affected, according to an advisory originally posted on Milw0rm.com.

And because Apple's iTunes contains a component of QuickTime, installations of iTunes are also at risk.

RoadRunner, the new super computer from IBM will be online in summer 2008. This will be the fastest computer on the planet. IBM Blue gene is currently the fastest super computer on the planet crunching out 478.2 teraflops a second. That is an absolutely incredible amount of computing power and ranks it at number one of the top 500. The new computer named "RoadRunner" will perform at twice that potential or a "Petaflop". These computer can literally see the future through their calculation and data crunching.

This week there is a newly visible comet in the sky and it can be seen with the unaided eye! Last week, Periodic comet Holmes (17P/Holmes), a very faint comet far from the sun experienced an outburst and brightened a million times in just a few hours. The comet puffed up (it's still expanding), changed color and wowed viewers around the world. If you visit http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap071030.html shows the comet's current apparent size in the sky - compared to Jupiter, which you can also see in the west after sunset.

To see the comet, all you have to do is step outside and look to the Northeast. You should be able to see the "W" that is the constellation Cassiopeia - it's standing on its end. One and a half "fists" away to the right is a bright star in the constellation Perseus. You probably won't be able to see all the Perseus stars, but the bright one - Mirfak - should be visible. It marks the top of a triangle, which is about the size of your thumb held at arms length away. The triangle's lower left corner is the comet! Use our chart to the right to help find the comet.

The comet will stay with us for a while, so weather permitting, you'll get a look this week or next.

There is so much power available in sources like the wind that it should make people wonder why we don't see this type of energy production being used in every single corner of the world. Here is an interesting article on the Apple iPhone written by Micheal Robertson.

9 Things an iPhone Can't Do
September 7th, 2007

Most reporters are too busy hugging their MacBooks to write a critical piece on the iPhone so let me fill the void and add some clarity to the situation. Here's a list of 9 things I can do with my
Nokia e61i which can't be done with Apple's iPhone.

1) Customizable dashboard screen keeps me informed.

With one glance at my phone's primary screen I can quickly see missed calls, new voice mail messages, upcoming meetings, available Wi-Fi hot spots, and even the last couple e-mails I have received. Selecting any of those items takes me directly to that task. I find the upcoming meetings the most important, but it is user configurable so it can be tailored to whatever you find most important. (One weakness is that it can't be configured to show incoming IM messages which would be ideal.) Nokia calls this the "standby" screen and here's a picture of mine. The iPhone lets you set your wallpaper to a picture of your dog or any photo which Nokia phone's do as well, but I don't find that nearly as informative.

2) Do instant messaging.

Anyone under the age of 29 uses instant messaging as a crucial communication method and the phone as their crucial device. On the iPhone, instant messaging is blocked even to Apple's own iChat network. Instead, they want you to use SMS text messaging and incur the
exorbitant amounts that AT&T charges. Even then you can't reach the major IM networks - only other phone users. Nearly any Nokia phone can run Gizmo for Mobile (Beta) which lets them send and receive instant messages on all major networks including Gizmo, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, iChat, GoogleTalk and Jabber. (Disclaimer: Gizmo is from SIPphone a company for which I am CEO.) Below is a screen shot of Gizmo for Mobile (Beta) running. The clever design lets you keep track of multiple conversations with people all in one window. It should run on any modern phone with a data connection.

3) Shooting videos.

I enjoy using the video features of my phone to capture special moments and to help teach my boys sports. Here's
before and after clips of my son learning to dive. The iPhone has a still camera but no video camera.

4) Over the air (OTA) updating of my contacts, calendar and music.

My e61i comes with syncing software which lets me sync my contacts and calendar anytime I like. (It's the circular arrows in the first screen shot above.) Often my assistant or co-workers book a meeting, add a contact, setup a call or adjust traveling plans. When this happens I am often traveling, or even if I'm in the office, I'm not going to remember to cable my phone to my PC. Calendar and contact information should update on my phone completely wirelessly and with my
e61i it does. Nokia supports SyncML - an open standard for wireless. Updating contacts, calendar and music on iPhone requires remembering to cable your computer up to your computer running iTunes.

5) One button access to ANYTHING.

In an
earlier piece I mentioned that the e61i has 58 buttons. What I didn't mention is that many of those physical buttons and virtual buttons on the screen can be configured to perform the action I want. When driving I don't want to have to click lots of buttons to dial a number. So I configured the number keys so that they directly dial my commonly called numbers with a single press. I also can determine what the virtual buttons do. I like the Opera browser because it's the fastest mobile browser by far. You can see from the O (in the first screen shot above) that I can get directly to that from the main screen. Since I often send e-mail, I configured a button to launch e-mail and open a new message making it quick and easy to access my most commonly used tasks.

6) Send files directly to/from my PC.

I used to carry a laptop most places I went, but I find myself increasingly moving about with just my phone. Consequently, I often want to move files (multimedia, documents, etc) from my phone to my PC or vice versa. Because I can add programs to my Nokia phone I was able to add
Gizmo for Mobile (Beta). This program lets me swap files from any PC to/from my phone. Even big files move quickly because the transfers are going point to point. I often leave Gizmo Project running on one of my computers with a unique name and "auto-accept files" turned on so I can quickly move files from my phone to a computer in my office.

7) Voice activated calling

I'm a big fan of bluetooth headsets and specifically the tiny
Jabra X10. By clicking a button on the headset and saying a name after the beep I can tell my phone to dial any name from my address book. It repeats the name it identified back to me and then puts the call through. This is a great way to place calls keeping my phone in my pocket and my hands on the wheel.

8) VOIP Calling

VOIP calling on the Nokia e61i
The Nokia e61i has Wi-Fi that can be used to easily make crystal clear calls that are often higher quality than traditional mobile phones. To make a Wi-Fi call - simply select a telephone number and select 'Internet call'. (insert image here) There's even an option to default to Wi-Fi calls automatically and only use the mobile service if Wi-Fi is unavailable. This can avoid expensive calls and eliminate the likelihood of exceeding allotted minutes on a plan and incurring substantial charges.

9) Wireless keyboard

On a recent East Coast trip I took just my phone to all my meetings in place of my laptop. I often take notes during meetings so I can share information with co-workers. To make entering text easy I took a
portable wireless keyboard which I would remove from my pocket to the astonishment of the other attendees. It not only let me take notes but I could use the keyboard to switch between e-mail, web and Gizmo for Mobile using the key with the ellipse on it.

As a former Treo user, and before that a Blackberry carrier, I have ample experience with smart phones. My point is not that the
Nokia e61i is perfect - far from it. See a raw list of its specific faults here. There's no denying the iPhone has a well thought out interface that is superior to the scrambled mess on Nokia phones. However, locks on the iPhone prevent customers from adding or customizing software to perform many of these smart phone tasks. Nokia will improve their interface but Apple will most likely not change their closed view of the world and that means Nokia devices are ultimately the better choice.

Instead of earning your business Apple wants to lock you into their system where you have no choice. Your devices and ultimately your data are under their control. I believe the world is a better place where consumers have open devices they can control. Steve Jobs glosses over this in his well orchestrated unveiling by saying the device is "open" because you can use the web browser to visit any web site, but he knows that it is not really open. (Most of the applications that people say are for the iPhone are simply web pages with very limited user interface and won't run in the background for example.)

Some criticize successful people for sport - largely out of jealously. Jobs is brilliant. He's in the most elite class of entrepreneur - those that have had more than one monster success. There aren't many who can make this claim and even fewer who have done it in different industries (Mac computers, Pixar, and iPod.) Unfortunately Jobs is also the leading promoter of music DRM and single-handedly set back interoperability of music for years which is why I criticize his actions. Sure he blames the record labels for making him do it, but look closer at the iPhone and you realize that he is not only a willing participant but an advocate.

Tonight Mars will look the same as it did last night and as it will tomorrow night. The rumor or hoax circulating through the internet that Mars will look as big as the Moon tonight, and that it wont happen again until the year 2287, is just not true. What they say will happen tonight is called "opposition" to astronomers. This is when Mars will reach the closest point to Earth in its orbit, this happens every two years and will happen on December 18th 2007 not tonight on August 27th 2007 as the email is saying. The Moon is 240 thousand miles away and Mars is 34 million miles away, do the math. In any case lots of people will be out tonight and will be very disappointed when Mars will not be as big as the Moon.  Who knows maybe you will  see a falling star and make a wish and just maybe it will come true. As always your comments are welcome.

Gingrich Speech in New Hampshire . Apparently it is causing a firestorm.

NEWT GINGRICH: The third thing I want to talk about very briefly is the genuine danger of terrorism, in particular terrorists using weapons of mass destruction and weapons of mass murder, nuclear and biological weapons. And I want to suggest to you that right now we should be impaneling people to look seriously at a level of supervision that we would never dream of if it weren't for the scale of threat.

Let me give you two examples. When the British this summer arrested people who were planning to blow up ten airliners in one day, they arrested a couple who were going to use their six month old baby in order to hide the bomb as baby milk.

Now, if I come to you tonight and say that there are people on the planet who hate you, and they are 15-25 year old males who are willing to die as long as they get to kill you, I've simply described the warrior culture which has been true historically for 6 or 7 thousand years.

But, if I come to you and say that there is a couple that hates you so much that they will kill their six month old baby in order to kill you, I am de scribing a level of ferocity, and a level of savagery beyond anything we have tried to deal with.

And, what is truly frightening about the British experience is they are arresting British citizens, born in Britain, speaking English, who went to British schools, live in British housing, and have good jobs.

This is a serious long term war, and it will inevitably lead us to want to know what is said in every suspect place in the country, that will lead us to learn how to close down every website that is dangerous, and it will lead us to a very severe approach to people who advocate the killing of Americans and advocate the use of nuclear or biological weapons.

And, my prediction to you is that either before we lose a city, or if we are truly stupid, after we lose a city, we will adopt rules of? engagement that use every technology we can find to break up their capacity to use the Internet, to break up their capacity to use free speech, and to go after people who want to kill us to stop them from recruiting people before they get to reach out and convince young people to destroy their lives while destroying us.

This is a serious problem that will lead to a serious debate about the first amendment, but I think that the national security threat of losing an American city to a nuclear weapon, or losing several million Americans to a biological attack is so real that we need to proactively, now, develop the appropriate rules of engagement.

And, I further think that we should propose a Geneva convention for fighting terrorism which makes very clear that those who would fight outside the rules of law, those who would use weapons of mass destruction, and those who would target civilians are in fact subject to a totally different set of rules that allow us to protect civilization by defeating barbarism before it gains so much strength that it is truly horrendous.

This is a sober topic, but I think it is a topic we need a national dialogue about, and we need to get ahead of the curve rather than wait until actually we literary lose a city which could literally happen within the next decade if we are unfortunate.

(APPLAUSE)

This is a very sober description of the Islamic terrorist threat we are faced with We are NOW at war with a culture that wants, not to take over our land, but to KILL us.

Our Opinion on this matter:

Wake up AMERICA! They want to kill each and every one of us! Are you going to allow this to happen to this country? As for me, I will  protect my country with my life! To much blood of good men and women has been shed to simply turn it over to these evil, lying and barbaric people. If you  are an "Infadel" then you  are  as dirt to them. These people are  the antichrist. If you are Christian then you must die according to them. Smell the coffee yet?.

May GOD strike down each and every terrorist who threatens this land and my GOD cast him to the pit of Hell where they belong.

Organic Semi-conductors? We are now printing Silicon chips on inkjet printers using special ink. A company called "Nanoident technologies based in Linz Austria. This new technology will changed the way we produce electronic chips. In the future you will look in your fridge and the label on your gallon of milk will tell you that "I'm expired, please replace  me" or your bottle of wine will say "I'm ready to be poured"  Just imagine the possibilities of this  type of technology.

Feel Like a Woman

A plane passed through a severe storm. The turbulence was awful, and
Things went from bad to worse when one wing was struck by lightning.

            One woman lost it completely.

She stood up in the front of the plane and screamed, 'I'm too young to die,'
she cried. Then she yelled, 'If I'm going to die, I want my last minutes on
earth to be memorable! Is there anyone on this plane who can make me
            feel like a WOMAN?'

For a moment, there was silence. Everyone stared at the desperate woman
in the front of the plane. Then the man from Australia stood up in the rear of
            the plane.

He was handsome, tall, well built, with dark brown hair and hazel eyes.
Slowly, he started to walk up the aisle, unbuttoning his shirt as he went,
one button at a time. No one moved. He removed his shirt. Muscles rippled
            across his chest. She gasped...

            Then, he spoke...

'Iron this -- and then get me a beer.'
